Continuing our American History tour in southeastern Virginia, we visited the other two points of interest that are part of the Historic Triangle, Jamestown and Yorktown. Jamestown was founded in 1607 and was the first permanent English settlement in the New World. Yorktown was made famous as the site where English General Lord Cornwallis surrendered to American General George Washington in 1781, effectively ending the American Revolutionary War.
At Yorktown, the little ones had fun running around on the big open field and looking at all of the cannons. The museum there is in desperate need of renovations, though.
Jamestown, however, was awesome!!! We had so much fun walking through the Indian village and touching everything from a homemade basket to animal skins, and even a bird wing. Benjamin had a great time grinding up corn. 
They also had replicas you could explore of the boats that sailed up the James River carrying the men who founded this first settlement.

They also had a replica of the fort with all of the buildings inside. They gave a demonstration of how the guns were fired and you could try on their armor. It's too bad it was way too heavy to put on Benjamin. He would have looked so cute.
