Bubbles

Ben loves bubbles!!!!!!!! Our nursery leader uses them to lure the kids into class. We always have a lot of fun with them in our back patio. No Ben doesn't wear glasses he just really likes to wear pretend glasses. He pops the lenses out of them and then will wear them for days at a time. As soon as he wakes up in the morning he asks where they are. Unfortunately these blue ones got left at someone's house. Don't you think he looks like Harry Potter in them?Sam was just chill'n on my lap. Thanks Dad for all of your hard work. Glad we put all that hot air to good use ;0)

1st Food

Sam had his first food on his 6th month birthday. It took 2 months but he finally likes it. He has even tried some solid foods like bread and chunks of peaches (more pictures to follow). He is becoming a great eater.I know I am about 2 months late with this post but these pictures were just too cute not to put on the blog.I made the decorations with my Cricut and then when I was done feeding him I used the decorations for his scrapbook page so now all I have to do is print the pictures.

Sammy's Big Boo-boo

Last Sunday Sam burned two of his fingers on a crock-pot. I was carrying him in a carrier on my stomach while I was cooking. I was reaching for a knife and I did want him to grab the knife so I leaned the opposite way which happened to put him close enough to the crock-pot. The next thing I knew he was screaming and his fingers had already started to blister. I was so heart sick that I had hurt my little baby!!!! After running it under cool water for about 20 minutes he had calmed down. The blister ended up getting a little bigger than this before it popped while he was playing with a soft duck. He kept taking the band-aid off and tried to eat it. One time he started choking on it. We now keep a sock covering the band-aid at all times. It is healing really nicely and so is my heart.

Sammy is 6 months old!!!!

All right, so he is actually closer to 7 months than 6 months at this point. I'm a little behind, however, not as bad as some. You know who you are!!!!!!

I just love this sweet little man so much! He is just about as perfect as you can get! He is so sweet, calm, and quiet (unless he is tired, bored, or really happy)
Sammy's stats:
Weight: 15.5 lbs 15-20% (this was over a month ago; we had to do his check up a little early- he is over 16 lbs now)
Height:26.5 50% (also a little taller than this)
Hair: Mostly bald but with a reddish tint
Teeth: None
Eyes: Brown

Things That Sam Can Do:

  • Hiss like a snake
  • Suck on his toes
  • will only stay on his belly if he is watching TV (and he only lasts about 5 min before flipping over, he really hates his belly-without the TV it is only about 10 seconds)
  • Gives hugs and kisses
  • Doesn't sleep through the night (he is still in the bassinet in our room, although he has just about outgrown it)
  • Sits by himself for about 15 seconds
  • Loves to spit
  • Flaps his arms like a penguin
  • He loves it when you jump and clap
  • Extremely ticklish on his ribs and inner thigh
  • Does the saddest little face when he cries
  • Always has a booger in his nose
  • Likes to sleep with a blanket over his head (this one is a little scary. He has a really hard time falling asleep without it, so I usually give it to him and then take it away during the night.)

Hissssssssssssss
Yummy!!!!!!Looking up at his big brother

Some of his nicknames in order of occurrence:

Sam Sam
Sammy
Naked Baby (this one has a song as he comes into the bathroom for his bath each night)

Hiking with Friends

The boys and I went on a little hike at our friend Alex's house. She lives on a ranch with horses, cows,2 huge dogs, and several acres of land to explore. All the other moms had little babies about Sam's age. Ben didn't seem to mind being the oldest. We were just a little slower than the rest. Ben was so busy looking at bugs and poking things with his stick to be in a big hurry.Sam just enjoyed the ride in his backpack.
Alex and her dogsWe stopped to have a little picnic before heading back. Sam had a nice little nap on the way back along with most of the other babies.Ben got to name one of the calves. He named it Huh. That is his response to most questions so after asking him 5 different ways of what he wanted to name it the answer was always the same "Huh" so that is its new name. Sorry Huh, I hope you will someday like your new name!
At the end of our hike Ben got to sit on a horse for the 1st time. He didn't want to leave after that. He still talks about getting to see the cows and the horses. Thanks for the invite Valarie and Noah!!!! We had a blast!!!!

Butterflies

Last month we went to Elwood Butterfly Reserve. It is a really amazing place that monarch butterflies migrate to each year. The boys had a great time. They both love being out in nature. After looking at all of the butterflies we met up with Valerie, Micheal, and baby Noah for lunch!

Under God

Several months ago I started teaching Ben the Pledge of Allegiance. He was getting pretty good at it with a few little funny slip-ups. He would say "one dalmatian dog" instead of "One nation, under God."

Well, we stopped practicing and I haven't said anything about it for a few months. Then one day Ben came up to me saying,

"It's under God! It's under God!"
To which I quickly responded "huh?" He then led me to the couch and started looking under it. It turns out that he put some of his cars under the couch and he remembered the word "under" from the Pledge of Allegiance so naturally the word that comes after "under" would have to be "God."

Since that day, any time he says"under" it is always followed by "God."
At any given time this is what it looks like under our couch.
Today's count
  • 13 cars
  • 2 people
  • 5 marshmallows
  • and a lens from a pair of sunglasses

Hugging Sammy

Ben is just now starting to ask to hold Sam. I guess he finally realized that Sam was actually living here. It is actually really cute, he says "hugging Sammy" and that means he wants to hold him. For some reason he mixes the words hug and hold. One day I was in the bathroom and heard Sam start screaming. I ran into the kitchen to find him laying on the tile floor next to his bassinet. Apparently Ben wanted to hug Sammy when I wasn't in the room. Yikes!! Other than that he is really good with him. I love my boys!

Picnic in the Forest

In our neighborhood we have a little nature trail. We call it the forest. A few weeks ago Ben's friend Talon came for a playdate. We decided to have a picnic in the forest. The boys loved eating on the blanket under the trees and then playing with balls, rocks, sticks, and any other boy thing we could possibly find on the path. I love our little forest!

A Little Visit

Yep we had a little visit from the Fire Department. This was actually back in December. But it is too funny not to blog about.

I was in the middle of painting Christmas trees for our ward party. I had my friend over with her two kids and my two kids. Needless to say the house was a little crazy. As soon as everyone left I finally sat down on the couch for a little break but to my surprise I could smell GAS, and a lot of it. I realized that in all the commotion at the house somehow the gas burner had been bumped and left open spilling gas into the house. We turned it off, opened the windows and got the kids out of the house. We weren't sure how long we needed to stay out of the house so we tried to find the # for the gas company. When we couldn't find that we decided to just call the fire department. They were so great to come and rescue us. By the time they finally got to our house the fumes had pretty much cleared out. I hope we don't have to call them back to the house for a very long time!!!!

Jump Jump

A few friends got trampolines for Christmas.
We found out that Ben loves to jump.

Not surprising at all.
